A couple of really nice bits of optimisations:

this gets rid of the imagesLoaded library, which was overkill and now we use a native system to do the same thing:

and this gets rid of the unintentional jank that was the clashing and unneeded core highlighting animation on first tile of new set when scrolling which made it look like it took time for the true background colour to load (but was just a CSS thing):

Sponsors (>= $7/month) should now have access to the sidecar once again.

If you are already set up with discourse-locations-early-access this way, use the same technique to clone sidecar - any issues PM me!

If you are a new sponsor and want to know how to get access to the sidecar PM me!

NB the Theme Component will remain public.

לייק 1

Are this component and https://github.com/merefield/discourse-topic-list-previews-theme.git same and/or latter is discontonued url?

לייק 1

GitHub - merefield/discourse-tc-topic-list-previews: Enriches the content and layout of topic lists · GitHub remains public and I’ve no plans to change that - that is the correct url and has not changed.

לייק 1

I guess at some point the repository was renamed. But this shouldn’t matter as long as merefield doesn’t create a new repository using the old name.

לייק 1

Yeah, the theme component switched org at one point (from Pavilion).

The original plugin became the sidecar and in that process the front end was removed and moved to the theme component.

Essentially this is now a freemium setup - those who don’t need the sidecar features continue as normal.

Clear as mud?

Update, to avoid broken builds I’ve restored a public version of the sidecar to the original url:

https://github.com/merefield/discourse-topic-previews-sidecar

but note this is now unsupported and should be removed asap.

There is a new admin notice.

For GitHub sponsors contributing >= $7/month please contact me privately if you’d like access to the supported version.

I’ve noticed a bug on the topic lists page where the bookmarks button is sometimes highlighted when it shouldn’t be:

Please update to the private sidecar @Eviepayne and let’s take it from there. Details in the PM.

That issue went away but I do see this in the admin dashboard:

I believe that was enqueued by the now missing legacy sidecar so you should be able to ignore and dismiss it.

Is Horizon supported, or is there any chance it will be?

I wonder, is that why I see a big red banner

:warning: There was an error. Your site may not work properly.
Caused by ‘Topic List Previews’. Click here to update, reconfigure or disable.

No they are not compatible as Horizon has its own use of transformers to modify things like columns so there is a fundamental clash.

לייק 1

I’m not using Horizon - just checked - I’m using Light with Topic Previews as the default, and with two other user-selectable options, being Dark with Topic Previews and Light (simple).

Do I have an incompatibility with TLP? It seems still to be working. But the big red (only visible to admins) banner is a bit disconcerting.

I’m on the esr stream (2026.7.0)

Is there an exception in the browser console?

FYI I did find some gremlins which have been removed and shown the door, hoping they were the same:

Please update and confirm the issue has gone away. If not, please share any console error (a warning is expected on older browsers)

לייק 1

Thanks - that fixed it!

For the record, before update:

TLP: your browser does not support CSS Grid Lanes. Topic List Previews will fall back to a standard grid layout approximation for masonry. Please consider updating your browser for the best experience. Check out CanIUse for compatibility information: CSS Grid Lanes | Can I use... Support tables for HTML5, CSS3, etc
