# Settings disappeared after the chat function was disabled.

This issue reappeared.

I just disabled chat on Discourse Meta, and it permanently disappeared from the preferences. I cannot find the chat settings anymore.
When I open `https://meta.discourse.org/u/25w31b/preferences/chat`, it redirects to `https://meta.discourse.org/latest`.

It’s a bit different, that first time it could be seen but didn’t work. This time it’s gone. I can reproduce this, by the way.

Just updated to 2026.3.0-latest ([fb8ef7ee72](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/commits/fb8ef7ee72f062074782f676794c01dd93bf4a14)) and still doesn’t work unfortunately. But this time I can turn chat on but it just doesn’t show up on the webiste.

Since chat is a plugin, it’s important to leave official plugins enabled when enabling [safe mode](https://meta.discourse.org/t/53504?silent=true).

And you were right. This was - surprise, surprise - DNS issue. All good, everything works.
