Hey there! We’re relatively new to discourse and my boss has given me the task of enabling https for Discourse. I turned on “use https” but I didn’t have much success… nothing seemed to change and I reach this error page when trying to access our forum using https: ![](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/meta/original/3X/d/7/d7eaea6d171d9e65b7edab136642a040eaf1b4c4.png) Any help would be greatly appreciated. The checkbox did warn you that you need to have an SSL cert installed and working before turning it on. I guess you skipped that part? 🙂 ---

I did see that, but I wasn’t sure exactly how to go about doing that. Do I need a new SSL certificate just for discourse or can I use the one that we’re using for our existing domain? The other thing I should ask is if we choose not to use https, can we redirect users who try and access https to the regular https site? ---

Oh I see that you’re one of our hosted customers. In that case you can go to your admin dashboard (/admin) and there’s a button to request SSL be installed for you. ---
