Trying to secure SSH on Ubuntu but found PAM

(Caue Rego) #1

Does Discourse use / need PAM?

I do realize we can make it work with ssh, and that’s probably a better idea than disabling it. But some people might still not want to set it up and still remove password auth from ssh.

Also, I couldn’t make PermitRootLogin without-password work even after deactivating PAM and killing sshd. :frowning:

Two-factor local login option

Did you disable or disconnect from the server before you disabled locally?

Locally I’m using Mac. Not sure what you mean. Once I kill sshd I get disconnected, and just try reconnecting. When I try connecting from a different machine (because removing my ssh id_rsa won’t do it), it still asks me for a password.
