It’s a tiny bit confusing, but it’s not a typo. Since version 5, FontAwesome comes in different _bundles_ or _variants_, solid, regular, brands, etc. In Discourse, icon names default to the solid bundle, to use an icon from regular or brands you need to use a prefix. It helps to see that field’s full contents: “Enter a Font Awesome icon name (use prefix ‘far-’ for regular icons and ‘fab-’ for brand icons)”. Side note: as of about a month ago, that field searches through the list of icons if you start typing, so the instructions are no longer essential, we might drop them altogether shortly.
