# UI issue when merging accounts

Today I ran into a strange problem here on meta when merging two accounts, at the request of a member. I was able to do it as usual and it worked, but something went wrong in the UI.

Steps:

1. merge using the button at the bottom of the user admin page of the account you want to merge into another account
2. page greys out and a “Merge process” popup is shown. It does not show any progress indicator and does not go away or offer a way to close. Clicking away or ESC does nothing.

3. refresh the page and a 404 page not found error is shown

I don’t recall how this used to work previously, but I _think_ there should be a progress indicator on the popup and it should indicate when is done, with a close button. Then you should land on the user admin page of the user that got merged into.
