# Unable to paste list of domains in group auto-add

We’re trying to [auto-add users to a group via a domain](https://meta.discourse.org/t/add-users-to-a-group-based-on-their-email-domain/132875), but I’m having trouble adding multiple domains at once (for context we’re hoping to add 850+ domains). I’m able to enter them in one by one, but I’m having trouble pasting in a list (even if it’s only a few). It always just detects it as a single string, instead of separate entries.
What is the correct procedure for this? I have tried:
- From an Excel sheet, entries separated by a comma
- From an Excel sheet, entries separated by a comma and a space
- We also tried via API but quickly reached the character limit:
- `Automatic membership email domains is too long (maximum is 1000 characters`
I know I have done a bulk add like this before, granted it may, have just been a hundred or two at a time.

I think it prefers a `|` instead of a comma for separating that input. Could you try swopping your commas out for pipes and give that a try?

You sir are correct! Using a `|` symbol **and having them all on a single line** solved it! The field would insert a space and error out if each entry was on a separate line.
