In a support thread regarding the inability to use reactions on iOS/Mobile, user Ahmed7 reported that while long-pressing the like button works on desktop, it fails on mobile devices (iOS 18/26) on their community instance. Despite testing in safe mode and on the Discourse meta forum, the issue persisted for Ahmed7, though other users like Jagster confirmed it works for them on the same platform.
Troubleshooting revealed that the issue is specific to portrait mode; rotating the phone to landscape makes the reactions appear, suggesting a viewport width conflict NateDhaliwal. Ultimately, user Don identified the root cause: the Discourse Jira plugin applies position: relative to post controls, which conflicts with the mobile CSS overflow-x: auto setting, clipping the reaction popup. After disabling the Jira plugin, Ahmed7 confirmed the feature was restored.
In our community (https://community.ankihub.net/), we used to be able to hold down on the like button on mobile/IOS and choose reactions on posts/comments in a thread, like a heart or thumbs up or thumbs down.
A year ago, after an update (I believe), we lost the ability to select reactions on mobile. We can only like, but we can’t hold down on the like icon and switch it to a heart for example. It works fine on desktop/laptop, but doesn’t work on Mobile even after requesting the desktop version of the site.
Does anyone know why this happened and/or how to fix this? Any insights would be appreciated!
Which of the checkboxes for safe mode did you enable? I am asking because reactions are a plugin too, and I sometimes forget to disable the checkbox for plugins when I want to test a plugin in safe mode.
Here’s what I found after some testing on the forum with a resized viewport to simulate mobile and DevTools: the reactions popup is definitely there. The element shows up and goes away as expected when hovering and removing the cursor. But for some reason, it does not appear on-screen. Or at least it seems to.
If you look really closely at the area just above the bottom red line above the thumbs-up button, you can see a faint shadow, which is the popup. There’s simply no reactions on it. This occurs in safe mode.
I also cannot, for the life of me, simulate a hover on the button to make the popup stay, even on desktop, using the DevTools’ controls to toggle the state yields no results. I cannot, therefore, ascertain if the reaction’s divs are even there.
Haha that’s so weird. I checked and yes I can see the super faint line when holding on the reactions. Is this a bug then? Any way to fix this/reverse it?
Interestingly enough, I found a way around this. If you go landscape on your phone, it does appear. This issue only occurs when you are in portrait/vertical mode
