Understanding Discourse Trust Levels

Automatically yes, but not right away. I don’t remeber what that timeframe is but I think promotes happends once a day.

This one is a little unclear about if there is a requirement that someone needs to have been a member for 100 days, or if they have only been a member for 50 days but visited every day then they qualify for promotion?

I think I misread that–100 days as a member makes more sense. Good catch!

But we don’t know how the admins of a specific forum have customized these default requirements. Maybe they have set the number of days you have to visit within 100 days to 101 to prevent anyone from being automatically promoted.

I think to get to TL3 is a bit difficult, especially for beginners. But with much dedication, moving to the next level won’t be difficult

Why do you want beginners to get to trust level 3? In general, I think you don’t need that many users who can change the title, category, and tags of other users’ topics and turn their own posts into wikis. And if you want that, you can change the requirements for trust level 3 at your forum or change the permissions so users with trust level 2 are also able to do that.

How to earn Basic Badge?

The badge is granted when you are promoted to trust level 1. The requirements mentioned in this blog post are the defaults. Admins can change them according to the needs of their community. So, you should ask for the specific requirements in that community.

A post was split to a new topic: Issues with outlier trust levels

Does this also apply to the Roblox dev-forum? And are your tier roles updated automatically if you meet the criteria or does an admin have to manually change it?

I guess it’s best to ask the admins of that forum. The requirements mentioned in this blog post are the defaults. Admins can adjust them according to their community’s needs. In general trust level promotion works automatically once you fullfill all the requirements. But trust levels of users can also be locked to prevent them from advancing to the next level, even if they meet the requirements.

Alright thanks! : D

What constitutes as ‘advanced’? TL4? That’ll be only by manual promotion by the staff. TL3? That has more requirements than the others, and can be lost.

That won’t be enough. On Discourse, you gain Trust Levels via positive engagement, not “waiting” . That means reading, Posting (relevant stuff), receiving Likes, giving Likes etc. …

Just by completing the discobot advanced tutorial

That’s not correct. The basic badge is granted when you reach the associated trust level, and trust level 1 is based on reading activity. This can, of course, lead to the fact that you reach the trust level at the end of the tutorial, but not everyone who completes the tutorial will receive the basic badge.

Does “entering 5 topics” mean creating 5 new discussion threads?

I’m on a message board where people are quite thoughtful about what they post, and I want to get to member status in order to access some threads for members only, but I feel entering 20 new topics could take a really long time, and I might never get there. A lot can be done simply using replies.

No, entering is just reading

Can you help me figure out why I’m still at new user status when I’ve viewed 30 topics?

I don’t want to be premature, but I’ve been reading this board for a few years now as a non-member, which is why I’m eager to get to a level where I can see more of the forums.
