"Unread" language should not use <footer> tag

Continuing the discussion from “You have no unread topics” is a lie:

Honestly I’d consider this a “bug”, but it doesn’t fit with the Meta description for the bug category, so…

Semantically, these paragraphs are not a “footer”. People who do use <footer> for their HTML footer on Discourse along with custom CSS for that tag, will find that this text is formatted in a surprising way.

Yes, I could avoid using the footer tag in my footer, but that’s not really resolving the issue.

Probably fine to issue a pull request that changes this, provided it doesn’t break any of the existing HTML and CSS styles (or code).

Just to follow up on this issue (which I suppose is still valid), I ended up just styling my “real” <footer> with the selector/pseudo-class footer:not(.topic-list-bottom) since there were a bunch of references to “footer” throughout the relevant code that displays these messages.
