Good question! There is no mention of synonyms in the github PR [FEATURE: option to automatically delete unused tags by KrisKotlarek · Pull Request #23864 · discourse/discourse · GitHub](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/pull/23864) but obviously they should be accounted for and should not be deleted as unused. We’ll get an answer on this question.

Thank you for that question. Actually, synonyms were considered as unused tags, which was a bug.

I fixed it here
