Update help please

I got this error:

ERROR: Config name must not contain upper case characters, spaces or special characters. Correct config name and rerun $0

I saw https:// Launcher always exits with "ERROR: Config name must not contain upper case characters, spaces or special characters." but there is no resolution there.

I have a discourse running on digital ocean. I got an email today saying I should update it. However, trying to upgrade discourse gives me the following error:

So I ssh in and run the commands. Have you run across this problem before? Isn’t the second argument “app”? there is no upper case in app.

Sincerely,

Remove everything other than printenv

#3

Has no one else run into this problem?

(Andrew Waugh) #4

What does ls /var/discourse/containers show?

(Bhanu Sharma) #5

digitalocean one click install is kinda tricky!
when you ssh into their server, they kinda take you to the install script!

You have to Ctrl+C to escape that and then,

cd /var/discourse
git pull
./launcher rebuild app

to make sure that you’re running the latest version.

#7

Please don’t publicise your keys for your own sanity and safety, disguise those.

e.g. DISCOURSE_SMTP_PASSWORD

This seems like a very easy problem but I don’t know what config is upper case. Maybe the error should tell me what word it is that is upper case? Why so cryptic?

(Bhanu Sharma) #9

I’ll maybe try to get more onto it, I did rebuilds literally yesterday and nothing has changed to launcher since then.

Tbh I’m also not very sure as to what may be causing it. Plus you’re running an unsupported install so you may not get much help outside of issues that actually existin discourse itself.

That being said, have you tried opening up the app.yml file to see if there is something wrong there?

#10

My main question is what is the name that is upper case and why is it upper case?

(Bhanu Sharma) #11

I am also trying to find an answer to the same question. I however wasn’t warned about any such problem when I rebuilt my container yesterday. In case you want to compare,

Here is the template the file is generated from. You can compare your app.yml with this to try to figure out what is written in capital or has unwanted whitespace.

Since I can not see your app.yml in person, I really can’t answer what is exactly going wrong here.

#12

I think it would help a lot if the error showed the string that it doesn’t like

How can the word “app” contain upper case, space, or special character?

I tried it but I still get the same error. I think the regular expression is wrong. I tried to echo the $config and I get app

like so

[root@qcrocks2 discourse]# /var/discourse/launcher rebuild app

app
ERROR: Config name must not contain upper case characters, spaces or special characters. Correct config name and rerun /var/discourse/launcher.

What I suggested wouldn’t have helped either.

Maybe @sam will be able to help in case launcher script has gone buggy!

Never mind I exported $LANG as en and now it is upgrading.

You were absolutely right. The en_US was the problem.

[root@qcrocks2 discourse]# echo $LANG
en_US.UTF-8
[root@qcrocks2 discourse]# export $LANG="en"
-bash: export: `en_US.UTF-8=en': not a valid identifier
[root@qcrocks2 discourse]# export LANG="en"
[root@qcrocks2 discourse]# echo $LANG
en
[root@qcrocks2 discourse]# /var/discourse/launcher rebuild app
which: no docker.io in (/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/root/bin)

You have less than 5GB of free space on the disk where /var/lib/docker is located. You will need more space to continue
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/vda1 25G 19G 4.8G 80% /

Would you like to attempt to recover space by cleaning docker images and containers in the system?(y/N)

(Bhanu Sharma) #18

I think the UTF-8 bit may be the cause because that (I guess) makes it locale instead of language!

(Bhanu Sharma) #19

Increase the disk size before going forward … Expand it to ~50GB or more. Maybe your postgres is also due for upgrade.

#20

I think it is a bug because why would a docker container name have anything to do with language but what do I know. Thank you for your help.
