Uploading backup but it doesn't show up

(Ova Light) #1

Has anybody else experienced that problem? After completion of the upload a message shows up saying that the backup is successfully uploaded but the backup is not shown on the admin page.

Is there any way to restore your site from backup in the terminal?

Is sidekiq running? Backups are uploaded in chunks and need to be merged back into a single file on the server once all the chunks have been uploaded.

how do i check if sidekiq is running ?

How was your Discourse instance installed?

Several methods, like the Old “Ubuntu” Install and Heroku have, let’s call them issues, with Sidekiq. You should be using the Docker install.

Same problem trying to upload a backup.
Been using docker.

(Dan Chao) #6

I’m having this same problem. I have a discourse instance deployed on Amazon EC2 using docker.

While SSH’d on the box, I see my backup on disk at /var/discourse/shared/web-only/backups/default, but it doesn’t show up on the backup list in my admin console.

The backup is from another forum instance that I had set up.

More details:
The Discourse version that I took the backup from is on version 1.3. The Discourse version I’m uploading to is version 1.5.

I have this set up as a web-only app, and my database is hosted on RDS.

What is the extension of your backup file?

(Dan Chao) #8

It’s backed up as a .tar.gz

What is the size of chunks?
I have same issue. I can restore old backups, but can’t restore latest.
Digging deeper in this problem.

After upload i don’t see any activity in sidekiq tasks not in Processed, Failed or Enqueued.

Discourse still wrote that backup were successfully uploaded.

‘forum-avtorifa-2015-11-03-184742.tar.gz’ был успешно загружен.
(Russian language)

Hmmm :disappointed:

I’ve restored manually with this instruction
But still interested why i can’t do this from web admin ui?

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I too am running into this (or quite similar). The Uploads UI shows successful, and parts of uploaded backup appear under a folder under /var/discourse/shared/standalone/backups/default/tmp, but do not appear to be merged back. I’ve validated that sidekiq is running, and don’t see activity in tasks/queues. Any suggestions on what to check?

#12

FYI for reference: I managed to get the uploaded backup to appear properly within the UI after deleting all previous backups, and deleting the entire contents of /var/discourse/shared/standalone/backups/default/tmp, then re-uploading the backup.
