Currently the functionality is that the setting is saved in local storage (in device) for 30 days. Though I think it’s been more than a few times that we’ve been asked to persist this in user settings itself which would work across devices. This setting now persists in the user’s preferences page at e.g. https://meta.discourse.org/my/preferences/interface
