Rather than have them learn to find their inbox, you could have a link to the information that you’re putting in the PM in a public topic that you pin globally.

Oh! You could use [Custom Components -- add button or text at any plugin outlet](https://meta.discourse.org/t/custom-components-add-button-or-text-at-any-plugin-outlet/349629) to create a “you really need to click this button” button that links to your topic and goes away when they join your “I read the intro stuff” group.
