# Using Discourse as an authentication provider

I’m building a custom site with a Discourse forum alongside it. I am implementing an image upload feature, and I’d like to use the existing Discourse forum to authenticate users on my site with their existing credentials. I’ve looked into [Discourse Connect](https://meta.discourse.org/t/13045?silent=true), but I don’t believe that’s what I’m looking for in this case as I don’t already have an SSO login system. Any guidance would be appreciated.
