In this topic [Can I default to a hidden sidebar?](https://meta.discourse.org/t/can-i-default-to-a-hidden-sidebar/252984/) a theme component was shared that closes the sidebar by default. It was created 2 years ago, so I don’t know if it still works but you could try. Even if it no longer works, it may be helpful to take a look at the approach.
