# Very, very slow on local machine (fresh install)

Has anyone experienced \*extreme slowness" issues after a new local install? I just completed a fresh installation am trying to create a theme. I’m not super familiar with Ubuntu/WSL so maybe I’m missing something obvious?

- local machine, Windows 11 with 8GB ram, WSL via VS Code, Ubuntu bare, SSD
- Used this installation guide: [Install Discourse on Windows for development - #102 by Arkshine](https://meta.discourse.org/t/install-discourse-on-windows-10-for-development/75149/102)
- Starting up ember-cli takes 5-10 minutes. 🥲
- Once everything is running, loading a page in [http://localhost:4200/](http://localhost:4200/) takes 5+ minutes. 🥲
- Occasionally my ember process will quit randomly and I get this message: 😭
