I canāt figure out what this notification means:
Thereās no mention of me on this topic, Iām not tracking it or anything. Thereās also no rollover āhintā about its meaning. Iām just confused. And obsessed - mostly obsessed
Any clues?
The discussion revolves around the meaning of a specific notification icon in Discourse, represented by a person pointing to the right. bartv is confused about the iconās meaning, as it doesnāt provide a rollover hint. Falco explains that the icon indicates an invitation to a public post.
bartv suggests using the same icon in both the invitation and notification areas, but Falco points out that the āshare and inviteā button has been merged in the latest Discourse update, and the icon is already used for the Group inbox.
The conversation then shifts to a discussion about the iconās clarity, with awesomerobot proposing alternative icons, such as ācomment medicalā or a plain plus sign, to make the notification more intuitive. codinghorror notes that the missing rollover hint is the primary issue that needs fixing. Finally, nbianca provides links to GitHub pull requests related to the addition of the title attribute, which is supposed to provide a hint about the iconās meaning.
It means invited.
However, didnāt we use to have a title attr there so user could find the meaning on hover?
Ahh that makes sense. This is used so rarely I had totally forgotten you can āinviteā people to a public post. Would it make sense to use the same icon in both places?

That button is gone in latest Discourse (share and invite are merged) and that icon is already used for Group inbox.
Ah! Was this a super recent change? I updated last week.
Brilliant. Thanks for your quick explanation Rafael! ![]()
This question has come up at least once before⦠I wonder if thereās a new icon we could use that might be a bit clearer? We already use āuser plusā for assign, but maybe ācomment medicalā because someoneās adding you to a conversation? or even a plain old plus sign? I donāt think we use that for any notificationsā¦
There is supposed to be, so if not, that is the bit that needs fixing @awesomerobot
