# What is “Bumping Topics”

The system automatically posts in a topic, which brings it up to the top of the “latest” list. It can be useful for re-surfacing old topics which have not been “solved” yet.

Don’t want to split hairs, but since the question was apparently about “bumping topics” more generally, it’s worth mentioning that the term refers to bringing topics back to the top of latest topics regardless of whether this is done by the system or a human.
tl;dr bumping = resurfacing older topics by posting a new reply, auto-bumping = when this is done by a machine (and, I believe, a rather unique feature of discourse).

Hi there,
on [https://community.hiveeyes.org/](https://community.hiveeyes.org/), we would like to occasionally bump a specific topic manually (this time, it is [Annapurna firmware images for Pycom/ESP32 - Firmwareschmiede / Firmware development - Hiveeyes](https://community.hiveeyes.org/t/annapurna-firmware-images-for-pycom-esp32/2754)).
Has this feature already been discussed? We would suggest to put an option nearby the “Reset Bump Date” button within the “topic actions” menu.
While we know pull requests are always welcome, we are not that much involved into the codebase of Discourse and thought we would just humbly ask here to give destiny a chance.

Setting a topic timer should do that for you.

Or you could just post a message if it is to “_occasionally_” bump a “_specific_” topic “_manually_”, couldn’t you ?

P.S.: Nevertheless, having this available via a single button-press like “Bump now” ;] would be nice. However, as it works this way, it has no priority for occasional manual bumps. When it needs to be applied more often to specific topics on demand, it might become more tedious.

You can also make a post and then delete it, for what is colloquially known as the “ghost bump”. Happens with spam, for example, if the spam makes it through our preliminary checks and Akismet.. which is thankfully rare!
