What should the homepage be for doc categories?

I wasn’t aware of this feature request already and I made a similar request here:

Hello Discourse team, We have started looking into Discourse Doc Categories. It looks very promising. Well done! One item that I noticed is that the landing page for each sub-category currently shows a list of posts under that subcategory sorted by Latest or other possible sorting options. While this is an acceptable approach for discussions, I feel it could confuse new non-Discourse users. I was expecting to see the index page as the landing page by default. This will also match the sidebar. …

I agree that using the index page is better than the current landing page.

The problem I see is that neither the index page nor the sidebar make it easy to actually scan and navigate the documentation topics:

One item that I have seen in other documentation platform that is currently missing from Discourse documentation is the previous and next buttons that automatically shows up based on the previous/next page in the index. That helps the reader to walk through the topics in the expected order without the need to go back to the contents/index page or use the sidebar. Here is an example:
