# 在大屏幕上隐藏侧栏的功能/用途是什么，如果它不能扩展主内容区域？

嘿 Discourse 团队。有时我想在水平方向上扩展主内容区域，即让它占据更多可用宽度；而直观的做法是隐藏左侧边栏。例如，这就是它在 Gitlab、JetBrains IDE 和 YouTube 等多个知名网站上的工作方式。使侧边栏可折叠本身的想法在您折叠后获得某些东西时才有意义，否则有什么意义呢？

我可以看到在小屏幕上主内容会重新获得可用空间。但为什么在大屏幕上不行呢？它要么不应该是可折叠的，要么应该有所回报，而提供更多主内容空间听起来是一个合理的理想——至少要增加隐藏侧边栏所释放的空间。

目前我认为隐藏侧边栏可以帮助您集中注意力——侧边栏会在不同位置有新内容时提供一些轻量级通知，这可能会让一些人分心。

侧边栏也可以完全作为一个“设置一次，然后忘记”的功能——用户可以将其打开或关闭，然后不再考虑它。不过，我一直很乐意听取更多关于这方面的看法。

在技术社区（许多技术社区都使用 Discourse）中，有各种各样的数据受益于更宽的内容区域，例如：

- 代码片段
- 日志
- ASCII 文档和图表
- PDF 和其他文件的就地预览

目前的体验让我抓狂，因为我必须水平滚动内容，同时看到桌面显示器中有 20% 的未使用空间。从用户体验的角度来看，这是一种人为地无法利用可用空间的情况，非常痛苦。

上面列出的软件/网站并非随意决定，将侧边栏释放的空间留给内容。

至少可以通过热键等方式使其能够“扩展”并占用除了一些美观边距之外的所有可用空间。

**说到保持专注** ……没有什么比在阅读和理解内容时需要水平滚动内容更分散注意力的了。

毕竟，这是一个可以解决的问题：只需像现在一样限制可换行的内容的宽度以保持其可读性，但允许不可换行的内容占用所有可用空间。
