# When certain images are uploaded, Discourse adds a solid background to them

On a forum I help run, I decided to upload a calculator for an emoji. Upon uploading, Discourse made the transparent background solid white. Why did this occur, and is there a workaround?

Thanks for that, I temporarily set the `png to jpg` quality to 100 while I uploaded the image, and it left the background intact. Restored to default now, will bookmark this for myself in the future.
