# When is it safe to \`Reset Update\`?

TL;DR: How can I tell if it’s safe to Reset Update?
In the (wonderful, BTW) web app, the `admin/update/discourse` window shows a empty `status` window and only the red `Reset Update` after three hours of starting the Discourse Update.
The Docker manager update went smoothly and now shows green.

> I have not run update in four months…
Search produced a [related issue](https://meta.discourse.org/t/update-takes-20-minutes-and-progress-update-breaks-temporarily-at-step-multisite-migrate/326533), but I don’t know if I’m actually looking at a failure.

Solution: IDK yet, but I discovered the excellent section on self-hosting and my next step is to [rebuild discourse from the shell](https://meta.discourse.org/t/troubleshoot-docker-installation-issues/13657?silent=true)
