When writing long topic the editor lags

AI-generated summary

When writing long topic the editor lags discussion revolves around an issue with the Discourse editor. Akon_Konvict experiences lag when working on long-form topics (1000-2000 words) in the editor, particularly when scrolling, entering text, or uploading content. They question whether this is a Discourse bug, a browser issue (using Edge), or something else.

Akon_Konvict attempted to reproduce the issue on the site but hasn’t posted a long topic here. However, they mention struggling to edit a 3000-word topic and finding workarounds by creating multiple topics to edit different parts.

Akon_Konvict also shares a screenshot of a “slow mode” message box, which prompts NateDhaliwal to explain that slow mode is a feature enabled by TL4+ users to manage heated topics or rapid replies, allowing users to post every x minutes.

Hey all.

When I am writing long-form topics (1000 - 2000 words), the editor that I am writing the topics lags a lot.

It gets stacked and lags when scrolling the editor to skim through content or when I try to enter, give space, or even upload something.

Is this a discourse bug, my browser (Edge) or something else?

Does anyone else experience this?

Are you able to reproduce this here, on this site ?

Well, I haven’t tried posting that long topic here, but I will just paste a long topic here to test editing. (I won’t post it)

Just now I have finished a topic with almost 3000 words, and I have struggled a lot to skim through content while editing.

And I have even created multiple topics so that I can create different part of topic and edit them and the add it to the original topic.

So, that I can easily edit the topic.

What is this feature and use case?

Slow mode can be enabled on topics by TL4+ users if the topic is getting heated or if replies are in rapid succession. It basically allows users to post every x minutes in that topic.
