Where are /admin/docker upgrade logs?

(Jan Philip Gehrcke) #1

If something is wrong after performing an update via /admin/docker (like here) we sometimes want to go through the update log again. Where can we find it? I mean, the log output within the update website is nice and all, but I guess it is also written to a file somewhere. If not, I would vote for saving it to a file into a shared volume.

Any ideas here @sam?

It should all be in the rails logs

For the first time, we experienced an error running an upgrade. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to capture the output with the error. I know it was something about a duplicate “First Like” badge (we don’t have a duplicate). I was hoping/assuming that I could find that same output in the logs, but I’m not finding it.

We have Discourse running across two containers (web & data). I found this discussion and assumed the log output of the failed upgrade process would be in /shared/log/rails/ of our app container. Here’s an abbreviated example of what I see in that folder:

$ sudo ./launcher enter web
# cd /shared/log/rails/
# ls -l
-rw-r--r-- 0 Mar 3 2016 production_errors.log
-rw-r--r-- 5848302 Mar 29 19:27 production.log
-rw-r--r-- 637212 Mar 27 07:55 production.log-20170327.gz
-rw-r--r-- 868845 Mar 28 07:51 production.log-20170328.gz
-rw-r--r-- 9167035 Mar 29 07:41 production.log-20170329
-rw-r--r-- 2788 Mar 29 17:57 unicorn.stderr.log
-rw-r--r-- 771 Mar 27 07:55 unicorn.stderr.log-20170327.gz
-rw-r--r-- 4051 Mar 28 07:51 unicorn.stderr.log-20170328.gz
-rw-r--r-- 7373 Mar 29 07:41 unicorn.stderr.log-20170329
-rw-r--r-- 0 Mar 16 07:37 unicorn.stdout.log
-rw-r--r-- 371608 Mar 15 03:42 unicorn.stdout.log-20170203.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1851571 Mar 29 03:40 unicorn.stdout.log-20170316

I’ve scanned these files (and similar in our data container) for when the upgrade error occurred (27 March) and haven’t been able to locate any output that looks like the upgrade process. Am I looking in the wrong place? Any idea which file would contain the upgrade logs or where else I should be looking?

(sorry for reviving an old topic, but it seemed more appropriate than creating a new topic)
