# Where do l create the banner topic?

I’m new to this idea of discourse as a platform. I’ve created my own community. Imagine it to be a pirates’ den. But here, it’s openly shown that it’s a pirates’ den and fellow pirates are always welcome. So where do I put up that signboard ??
In the context of discourse, that’s what’s meant by the banner topic.

You can use the pin button in the topic settings wrench button and there is an option to show it as a dismissable banner. I am unsure if this is what you need.

Please slow down, do some more reading and searching, experiment more with your site. There are multiple approaches to banners described in the [linked topic above](https://meta.discourse.org/t/where-do-l-create-the-banner-topic/409896/2).
Until you have people to support in your community you can just try settings out to figure out what they do. If you try something and get stuck, feel free to ask, but don’t just take screenshots of the interface and ask about them without doing a little research or trying them out. You can also ask basic questions to our bot on [ask.discourse.com](http://ask.discourse.com).
