I would also wish, especially with regard to the GDPR, that users explicitly agree during registration, as it could otherwise lead to problems.

Sorry, but that is a reasoning what e-commerce uses too when sending unwanted emails. And why those opt-out permissions are forbidden in EU - and in GB too, unless it was abandonded after brexit.

It’s something we are open to giving people more control over when they create their account and we’ve discussed some possible designs, but we haven’t had a chance to go any further than that yet.

If you’d like to contribute to moving this forward, consider voting for that feature and contributing to the discussion there about the details of the design of this feature.

I realize that @mcwumbly post does not satisfy the request in the OP but it is the best answer we can give right now, so I marked it as the solution. We know there are improvements possible in this area. Let’s look for solutions over in that topic.
