# Why Limit the Days a User can Change their Username

What is the thinking of limiting the days a user can change their username? Is there a setting for unlimited?

Until somewhat recently when you changed your username you also broke quotes and some other continuity-dependent features.
This is no longer the case, but it can still be mildly annoying for others in the long-run. If someone changed their username every month for example, you’d have a hard time remembering what their username is if you wanted to mention them (people who do this definitely exist!).
There’s no setting for unlimited, but you could change the ` username change period` setting to 9999 (~27 years).
