# Why use Discourse over Linkedin, Google, or Facebook Groups?

Yeah, maybe moms indeed. And newbies in general.

What I meant is that if you simply link your facebook profile in discourse you’ve already connected it. And if you link back your discourse profile on facebook, you make it “legit”. So you actually can be known as the same person either way. Discourse [is **not** meant to be “dead plain easy and simple” to join](http://blog.codinghorror.com/your-community-door/). We want to keep some level of difficulty as a small filter. I think an easy way to “connect” facebook profile would go against that.

Also, unless facebook implements discourse within itself, you probably won’t be able to convince anyone to switch over. People don’t just move over. No feature will help you there. Your best bet would be closing the facebook group. People are lazy as hell when it’s about learning something new, no matter how much better it is.

There is at least another **big reason** to use discourse over the rest. Because [google is already trying to copy discourse](https://meta.discourse.org/t/free-hosted-option/9621/80)! 😜

It’s only a matter of time before facebook and linkedin either follow it as well. Or even (probably not, though) use it!

O recente [encerramento dos grupos do Yahoo!](https://www.searchenginejournal.com/yahoo-to-shut-down-all-yahoo-groups-on-october-21st/330695/#close) sugere mais uma razão. Qualquer plataforma proprietária pode desaparecer, deixando você em apuros sobre como recuperar seu conteúdo e o que fazer a seguir.
