Words with more than 30 chars in titles blocks posting

(Graham Chiu) #1

I was attempting to post a topic using the title

“How can I enable TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA for my site?”

but this triggers a JS popup

Title seems unclear, is it a complete sentence?

which prevents the post being made.

Is this intentional? Or a bug?

This is intentional, because of the site setting: title max word length

So, it’s just a misleading error message then.

This error message applies to many validations on topics/posts, like not enough entropy, all uppercase etc…

Only very specific boards/subjects will have 30+ words in titles and those can adjust the settings if necessary.

Why not just say then that it breaks one of the rules for title topics instead of saying that it’s not a complete sentence?

(Jeff Atwood) #6

This begs many questions, such as, why are you the only person in the world with this unusual HTTPS protocol problem?

(Graham Chiu) #7

I’m merely the first, and I’d rather not be.

Since the forum was setup on a Google Compute Engine instance of 10Gb, I’m planning on a reinstall on a larger instance with more ram (it’s already too busy on 1.7Gb) so hopefully, it will go better the next time.
