Suggested Topics

When you visit a topic as a guest, without logging into an account, the forum suggests random topics that you might like to read at the bottom of the page. When you visit a topic logged into an account, the forum suggests topics based on topics you’ve previously read at the bottom of the page, in order to try to recommend topics you might actually want to read.

Top Topics

Top topic lists show topics mainly according to:

  • the number of times each topic has been viewed
  • the number of times users have liked posts to each topic
  • the number of posts to each topic

We use these measures to try to show you the most important topics on the forum.

Hot Topics

Hot topic lists show topics mainly according to:

  • the number of times users have liked posts to the topic
  • how long ago the topic was started
  • the number of recent posts to the topic
  • the number of users who have recently posted to the topic
  • a forum-wide setting affecting how quickly topics fall out of the hot topic list

We use these measures to try to show you the topics receiving the most recent attention.

Related Topics

When you visit a topic on the forum, the forum suggests topics that might be related by comparing the current topic to the titles, categories, tags, and posts of all the other topics that you can see.

Related topics appear on forums, like this one, that use the Discourse AI plugin and enable related topics.

E-Mail Digests

The forum sends you e-mails about topics you may have missed when you don’t visit the forum for a week.

The forum decides which topics to include in your e-mail digests mainly according to which topics you can see and participate in and the date of the last digest was e-mailed to you.

You can stop e-mail digests on the e-mail tab of the preferences page for your account.
