I noticed that when I search for a user in the search bar on mobile and click on a user, it doesn’t do anything.
I think it would be nice if the click would take me to the user’s profile page.
What do you all think about this?
The discussion revolves around the behavior of clicking on a search result for users on mobile. fzngagan initially reported that clicking on a user doesn’t do anything, suggesting it should take them to the user’s profile page. pfaffman replied that on their end, it inserts the username into the search bar, allowing a subsequent search to find the profile. codinghorror argued that the expected behavior is to search for users at /users, even on mobile. fzngagan countered that users might expect similar behavior to the desktop version, where clicking on a user takes them to their profile. However, nathank noted that this feature has since been implemented on mobile, and suggested that the search icon could also display all three search types (topics/posts, categories/tags, users) in the results, similar to the desktop version and the Meta homepage search bar.

For me it competes the username and inserts it into the search bar. You can then do the search to get to the profile. (at least here)
Yeah. I noticed that it does that. Is that the expected behaviour though?
It’s certainly not a bug.
Should I change the tag to feature?
This request does not make any sense. Search for users at /users — even on mobile.
I was suggesting this because when we search on the desktop without an @, there are two columns.
One column shows matching topics and the second one shows users. And clicking on a user takes you to their profile.
So the users will naturally expect the same behaviour on mobile too.
But anyway, its only an opinion. ![]()
I’ve noticed that this seems to have been implemented on mobile now (so this can be closed).
Currently, via the search
icon you can choose what you are searching (topics/posts, categories/tags, or user).
I also note the the search bar used here on the Meta homepage gives all three in the results (as per desktop), which is even better in my mind.
Is there any reason why we can’t have that for the
icon too?
