The default privacy policy in Discourse’s German version is outdated, last updated in 2013, and does not account for the GDPR. joa is concerned about compliance with current German regulations. michaeld shared a helpful document on GDPR and Discourse forums, focusing on the actions of the community administrator. HAWK pointed out that the privacy policy on Discourse’s website is GDPR-compliant, suggesting that the German translation was simply never updated HAWK. Dannii confirmed that the stock privacy policy in English also hasn’t been updated since 2013, questioning whether it needs updating for GDPR compliance.
I am setting up a Discourse instance for a community in Germany. Going through the documents generated by the default installation, I found the privacy policy, but at least the German version states:
Dieses Dokument ist als CC-BY-SA lizenziert. Es wurde zuletzt aktualisiert am 31. Mai 2013.
Which translates to:
This document is licensed under CC-BY-SA. It was last updated on May 31, 2013.
Does this mean the default privacy policy does not take GDPR into account, which became law and applicable much later?
Can I expect the German version of the default privacy policy to comply with all current regulations in Germany? I am having difficulty creating my own, as I am not aware of all the things Discourse does.
The stock privacy policy that comes with Discourse hasn’t been updated since 2013 even in English. I don’t know how it would need updating, if it even really does.
