Fixing an image larger than 4096kb?

AI-generated summary

The discussion revolves around fixing images larger than 4096kb in posts. smileypants707 initially asked how to resolve the issue as an admin and sam suggested downloading and re-uploading the image to trigger the resizing logic. This solution worked for smileypants707.

However, smrtey and smileypants707 encountered issues with this solution when trying to upload a giphy image, with the resizing logic not kicking in as expected. codinghorror suggested using a video link instead of large animated GIFs, which can be inefficient and problematic, especially for mobile users.

Is it possible for me as an admin to fix a user’s post that contained this error?

How, if so?

Simplest thing is just to download the image, and then to upload it, then our logic for resizing huge images will kick in.

Other options are raising the limits of maximum upload sizes but on hosted instances that needs to be coordinated with us.

The simplest thing worked! Thank you

Someone is trying to post this giphy image

Initially it loads and a few minutes later it doesn’t display and they get
image

If I download the image and try to upload it, I get the message

What am I doing wrong? Why isn’t the logic kicking in?

Yeah, I’m getting the exact same issue. I just haven’t had the time to bump this. The solution above works briefly, but then it doesn’t.

Try using a video link instead of a ginormous, inefficient animated GIF – that really punishes people on mobile.

Applies to both you and @smrtey
