reproduction:
- start a dm with yourself
- the issue occurs
it should take you to your own pm
but instead, it takes you to deleted
i’m not sure why it is doing that
A bug has been reported where sending a message to oneself in a direct message (DM) takes the user to their deleted personal chat instead of their own private messages (PM). twofoursixeight initially reported the issue and provided steps to reproduce it. hello-smile6 was able to reproduce the bug, but Canapin was not.
It was later discovered that the bug may be related to older Discourse forum software, as twofoursixeight mentioned it still existed on the Swordbattle.io forum. However, hello-smile6 and joffreyjaffeux discussed the need for a valid reproduction on the main forum.
Firepup650 found that the bug can still occur on updated forums if there is an existing chat with a deleted user. The bug seems to be related to the existence of a chat with a deleted user, and not all forums are affected.

Can you still repro this please?

I just tested and was able to reproduce this bug. If I send a message, it goes to the “deleted” chat.
I can’t repro.
Is there any missing step?
What is the deleted chat exactly? Is that a channel or a personal discussion? How can a personal discussion be deleted?
I’d like to repro, but I think I’m missing a bit of info about how the chat works ![]()
Swordbattle.io forum runs on older discourse forum software, so that bug seems to still exist over there
@Canapin I think the bug is patched, cannot reproduce anymore
If it can be reproduced on meta or other up-to-date forums, it’s a good sign. ![]()
Ideally, the forum you came across the issue in should be upgraded to the last version, so you could test again and confirm.
If the other user is deleted.
Yes we need a valid repro on main.
I tested it, and it seems like it no longer breaks.
Thanks for testing!
The forum @hello-smile6 was able to reproduce this on was updated, and it’s still possible, though you have to have an existing chat with @deleted for it to be possible. (EX: Forums without chats to deleted are fine)
very rare and specific case, please reopen if more explicit issue
