Related category permissions

AI-generated summary

The Related category permissions theme component, created by Moin, provides a convenient way to view security permissions of parent and subcategories. It helps avoid errors when assigning groups to subcategories by displaying the permissions of the parent category below the subcategory, and vice versa. Lilly and tgustilo have both found the component to be useful and functional, with tgustilo appreciating the ability to work from both category to sub-category and sub-category to category directions. The component can be installed from the GitHub repository by following the install guide.

I created this component because I often struggle to assign the right groups when creating a subcategory.

An error occurred: Any group that is allowed to access a subcategory must also be allowed to access the parent category. The following groups have access to one of the subcategories, but no access to parent category: admins

I frequently see this message because I forget which groups have access to the related category. For example, when I try to restrict a subcategory of the staff category to admins, I sometimes forget that, while I know all admins are staff, Discourse treats these groups independently

This is why I needed a way to quickly check which groups are permitted to access the parent category. And that’s exactly what this component provides.

Very nice! Works as advertised. I like it that I can work from both directions, category to sub-categories and sub-category to category. Thank you!
