Maybe it’s just my case but I actually use boomarks also for other stuff like: mark great posts, things to do, howtos/FAQ to edit and this kind of things appear in the same boomarks list, that’s why is not handy for me..
EDIT: the only workaround I see is using bookmarks just for “unread” posts
