The discussion revolves around how pageviews/views are calculated in Discourse. Jumanji asks if the explanation on pageviews still holds true and inquires about the views count on index pages and topic pages. Moin responds that page views are now counted separately for different types of users and provides links to relevant documentation, including a post on views counter specification. According to Moin, repeat views of the same page do increment the view count, but only after the topic view duration hours have passed. Jumanji thanks Moin for the informative resources and plans to do further testing to ensure there are no issues on their end.
Is if the same for the views count on index pages and at the bottom of a topic page?
We’re noticing some underreporting of PVs from both anon users and logged in users. Posting a reply changes the views count, but simply reloading the page with an ALT+ Refresh doesn’t appear to change views.
Should repeat views of the same page, whether by anon or logged in users, increment up the view count?
We’re self hosting 3.4beta3. When we upgraded to 3.2 we had some issues with the Topics Viewed counter not incrementing correctly.
Mostly. Page views are now counted separately for users who are logged in, visitors, crawlers, and traffic that could not be identified. You can read more about the current report of pageviews in the documentation Understanding pageviews and the site traffic report
Views on topics are counted differently. This post explains it:
Yes, but only after topic view duration hours have passed.
