Questions about the Discourse iOS app

AI-generated summary

In a support discussion about the Discourse iOS app, alltiagocom initially reported white borders appearing around their profile image in the app, suspecting it was due to an Apple Touch icon with a white border. After replacing the image and re-adding the forum in the app, the issue resolved itself, suggesting a caching problem. They also asked whether the app receives regular updates, expressing concern about recommending it to users if it might become outdated. awesomerobot confirmed that the app is actively maintained and features are added over time, though it’s not a full-time focus — changes are visible in the GitHub repository. The app is designed to help users manage multiple Discourse communities conveniently, similar to how Discord handles multiple servers, making mobile navigation easier than switching browser tabs. alltiagocom appreciated the reassurance and agreed that the multi-community functionality significantly improves the mobile experience compared to using a browser.

I noticed that my image on the app shows these white lines (top, bottom and sides):

Which image is used for this? I had indeed an image for Apple Touch that add a white border. I replaced it, but it’s still showing. Can it be a cache issue?

EDIT: I believe that was the image that was adding the borders. After replacing it and removing the forum from the Discourse app, then adding it again, no more borders. This issue is now solved :white_check_mark:

Second question: does the app get updated/improved regularly? For mobile users, using the browser is probably not the best option, and people got used to having apps for pretty much everything, but I don’t want to suggest the users on my communities to use the app, if they will not have an updated experience.

Yes, we maintain it and add features but it’s not a full-time focus. You can see changes here: Commits · discourse/DiscourseMobile · GitHub

The app is an easy way to manage multiple Discourse communities you may belong to, and as of recently can be used to find new ones, but we have no plans to change the Discourse experience itself within… individual sites will function as they do on the web.

Good to know it’s maintained, at least.

Yes, and I see it almost like the way Discord works, where I can have multiple servers. It makes it so much easier than using a web browser on mobile and having to juggle around pages.
