European Typography Rules

AI-generated summary

The discussion revolves around the Enable markdown typographer setting in Discourse, which converts apostrophes and quotes to curly ones. tvavrda highlights that different European countries use different characters for these punctuation marks and suggests supporting these variations. They provide an example of correct Czech quotes and link to an official summary on the use of quotation marks in different languages. tvavrda later discovers the Markdown typographer quotation marks setting, which addresses the issue for single-language forums, but raises the question of multi-lingual forum support. tvavrda thanks Moin for mentioning that defaults can be influenced based on the site’s locale and shares a PR adding Czech version support.

The Enable markdown typographer setting converts apostrophes and quotes to the curly ones. We have a bit different characters for these in different European countries . It would be super great if this would be supported.

„This would be a correct Czech quote, for example.“

Oh, I just found this setting: Markdown typographer quotation marks!

So it solves the problem of a single-language forum. But maybe there would be thoughts about this concerning the current multi-lingual forums support?

Thanks @Moin for pointing out that it is possible to influence the defaults based on the default site’s locale. I added Czech version in this PR:
