Dimava introduces the No Bump First Post plugin, designed to prevent topics from being bumped when the first post or its tags are edited. This addresses issues where frequent edits or tag changes by users or moderators create spammy activity. The plugin features category-based allow/block lists and optional time-based cooldowns.
Moin questions the plugin’s necessity, noting that recent core changes (PR #34681, PR #34945) already prevent bumping when the last post is edited. Moin suggests the plugin might now be redundant, except for specific edge cases like wiki topics.
Dimava responds after checking the core updates, realizing that the logic has been inverted and a new plugin modifier introduced. Consequently, the plugin would need to be rewritten from scratch to function with the new core architecture. Dimava concludes that the plugin is likely no longer needed due to these core improvements.
Separately, henvo asks if the plugin’s cooldown feature is the only way to stop users from bumping their own topics frequently. Moin clarifies that since last-post edits no longer bump topics, users likely bump by replying to their own topics. Moin recommends the official discourse-no-bump plugin for this specific use case instead.
I’ve been looking for a way to stop users from bumping their own topics every few days, is this functionality currently the only way to do this in Discourse?
Since edits on the last post no longer bump the topic, I’d assume they reply to their own topic. Then you might also want to look at Discourse No Bump. It’s an official plugin maintained by the Discourse team.
