TLDR I’d very much appreciate a return to seeing releases posted in the Announcements area. Only 13 days after updating, I notice there’s been another release, which is already 6 days old, with loads of security fixes. I’m concerned that this appeared, to me, as a stealth release. I didn’t notice it by a post on Announcements, because that doesn’t happen any more. I didn’t notice it by email from my forum because that was broken for nearly a year. I didn’t notice it by seeing any update on releases.discourse.org because I don’t poll that site looking for changes. I didn’t notice any notification possibly because there wasn’t one and possibly because most recent notifications of updates on my dashboard have been spurious. Probably I noticed it because I had reason to visit the Admin area of my forum and saw that there’s a new release. I gather the missing email bug has been fixed. I hope the spurious dashboard update notifications have been fixed. I’d very much appreciate a return to seeing releases posted in the Announcements area. (I’d quite like to know why 33 security fixes arrived all of a sudden but that’s incidental.)

[imagem] Ed_S: I gather the missing email bug has been fixed. Yeah, very sorry about that. It really shouldn’t have gone unnoticed for so long :grimacing: [imagem] Ed_S: I’d very much appreciate a return to seeing releases posted in the Announcements area. Noted, thanks for the feedback. I’ve raised this with the rest of the team for discussion. With the new release system, we are trying to reduce duplication of information/work as much as possible, so that’s why we’ve centralised on releases.discourse.org, which in turn pulls its information from GitHub and the ‘new features’ feed in Discourse core. But I totally understand the desire to have pointers to that information on Meta. I’ll see what we can do. [imagem] Ed_S: most recent notifications of updates on my dashboard have been spurious I’d be interested to learn more about that. I’m not aware of any issues with the dashboard update UI :eyes:

[imagem] Ed_S: I’d quite like to know why 33 security fixes arrived all of a sudden but that’s incidental [imagem] Sam Saffron @samsaffron Rails just landed 11 CVEs, similarly our monthly release at @discourse landed 33 CVEs. This is not that software suddenly got sloppy, the AI based scanning using 5.4 xhigh and Opus max is finding dormant issues. Even if you hate AI and don't think loops are useful for anything, 10:16 PM - 23 Mar 2026 170 20

huh, now there’s a thing, AI getting some credit wrt to security instead of a grumble about risk etc.

Many thanks - I see two backdated announcements, very encouraging. I used to get emails for posts in Announcements, I hope that’ll somehow still work. For example, I got an email for this announcement of a security and maintenance release in December. I hope the big re-org of categories hasn’t stopped the emails. [imagem] Ed_S: most recent notifications of updates on my dashboard have been spurious I’d be interested to learn more about that. I’m not aware of any issues with the dashboard update UI :eyes: I found this topic, but I feel sure that around that time there were several reports: “New advice on site dashboard” notification but no advice there! (3.6.0.beta3-latest)

[imagem] Ed_S: I found this topic, but I feel sure that around that time there were several reports: “New advice on site dashboard” notification but no advice there! (3.6.0.beta3-latest) I think he fixed that a while ago [imagem] Photos are display in half in chrome, PWA, Edge and Incognito Mode Bug Thanks for noting this! Somehow I’d missed the report in the other topic. The problem with the version check should now be fixed. Our version-check API now returns ‘out of date’ responses for 3.6.0.beta3-latest. (the problem is that 3.6.0.beta3 was never actually released, because we renamed it to 2025.11.0)

[imagem] Moin: I think he fixed that Hmm, that looks like the opposite problem - a lack of notification? [imagem]Photos are display in half in chrome, PWA, Edge and Incognito Mode It seems there is a problem that Discourse permanently says it’s up to date because of the new version names. I’m not completely clear on this one!

[imagem] Ed_S: I see two backdated announcements Yup! February 2026 monthly release March 19th 2026 intermediate releases [imagem] Ed_S: I used to get emails for posts in Announcements, I hope that’ll somehow still work. There’s nothing Meta-specific there. If you were receiving emails, that must be because you’re “Watching” or “Watching first post” on the category/tag. [imagem] Ed_S: Hmm, that looks like the opposite problem - a lack of notification? Just checking - what do you mean by ‘notification’ here? I don’t think we currently trigger Discourse notifications for new versions. Do you mean something was missing from the dashboard display? If you have any screenshot, that would be great to help identify the issue.

[imagem] david: Just checking - what do you mean by ‘notification’ here? I don’t think we currently trigger Discourse notifications for new versions. So, according to the linked thread, several of us were seeing notifications “New advice on site dashboard” - that would in the blue circle on the profile picture at top left (Edit: ahem, top right) and in the drop-down from that picture. Oddly enough, looking now at all my notifications and scrolling down the page, I see none at all of that type. It’s here in the source tree: config/locales/client.en.yml: admin_problems: "New advice on your site dashboard"
