It's easier than ever to create events in Discourse!

If you update Discourse today, you’ll have access to a simplified event creation flow in the Calendar and Events plugin.

Now when inserting an event from the additional options menu in the composer, you’ll get an interactive editor directly in the composer!

This editor is also available as part of the preview in markdown mode:

Advanced settings are still available if you click the cog icon in the upper right of the editor.

We’ve also clarified some of the advanced settings by revising the RSVP and attendance section. Now you no longer have to figure out what “standalone” mode means, it’s just selecting “none” for “how many members can RSVP to this event”!

We’ve also re-ordered and clarified some existing advanced settings in the modal.

When viewing the calendar, you can also now click (and optionally drag) to quickly create a new event:

These updates are part of a series of Calendar and Events improvements we’ve been making, read about some other upcoming changes in: Easily create Events categories using the Calendar and Events plugin

This is great, thanks!

I was showing some new people how to create an event on their phones last night. We ran into a couple of issues:

  • limit of 1000 characters in event description (I’ve already made a feature request to increase this)
  • it was difficult to get to the topic/post description to add the long description there – the keyboard was hiding it. Once we found it we couldn’t see it while typing.
  • it was difficult to find the circle-plus on the phones for the pull-down for Add Event (I’m guessing this isn’t a calendar plugin issue per-se, though)

Thanks for a great plugin!
