watchmanmonitor raised a feature request to improve spam detection for newly created users, referencing a previous discussion where multiple accounts were registered from a single IP address. They noted that current spam activity involves new, unverified users from various IP addresses, making it difficult to identify patterns with the available data. To better combat this, watchmanmonitor suggested exposing additional information in the users table or via exports, specifically mentioning the source IP and the creation timestamp (created_at). They requested that more relevant data points be surfaced to assist moderators in fighting spam effectively.
Over in New users that have never been Seen or Activated - #24 by dax we saw that a slew of users were created from one IP address.
Now I’m seeing new/unverified users from different IP addresses, but it’s hard to see a pattern.
If the users table could include the source IP, or if we could get that in an export, it’d help.
There may be more info worth surfacing.. created_at, etc
