A bug was reported where trust level 4 users lost the ability to set topic timers after upgrading to Discourse 1.9. rizka noticed this issue and provided a screenshot for reference. Initially, jomaxro thought it might be a feature change, but after further discussion, it was determined to be a bug.
It was discovered that the issue was caused by a commit that restricted topic timers to staff only due to a problem with timers not triggering correctly for trust level 4 users. tgxworld investigated and found that the restriction was unnecessary, as timers should be available to admins and trust level 4 users or higher.
tgxworld reverted the commit and asked jomaxro to reproduce the issue. jomaxro confirmed that most timer features work for trust level 4 users, except for auto-delete, which Noah751 suggested removing for trust level 4 users since they cannot delete topics anyway. The issue is now fixed, with cpradio confirming the resolution.
When we upgraded to 1.9 the trust level 4 users seem to have lost their ability to set timers for topics. So they cannot auto-close topics or close them temporarily. They can close them in a regular manner, though.
Consider me confused then. Moving this back to Contribute > Bug. I’ll be quiet now and let the real engineer (@tgxworld) look at this when he comes in .
@jomaxro Yea topic timers are supposed to be available to admins and users with trust level 4 or higher. Do you recall why we restricted it to staff only?
It came from this topic: Scheduling topics for future publication. Topic timers were not working for TL4 users when I tested it (timers could be set but nothing would happen when they triggered), so Jeff said to disable it unless it was an easy fix.
