A single line of text allows newly registered users to get three 3 Badges!

Please, don’t test on meta :folded_hands: If you want to test, feel free to use https://try.discourse.org

Requirements:

  1. New user
  2. A plain text link (cannot be text with a link embedded)
  3. This link stands alone on its own line

When the post is published:

  • The link itself can satisfy the criteria for “First Link”
  • An on-topic post can satisfy the criteria for “First Quote”
  • A single line of plain text can correctly expand the OneBox block

Thus, a newly registered user who directly copies the URL of an on-topic post as their content can get 3 badges at once!

Of course… this is just the scenario with minimal actions. They could also mention a user and add an emoji on the next line, then edit and flag the topic… resulting in something like this.

If the Show badge on the post it was granted for option is enabled for the relevant badges, you can get a piece of art like this. :innocent:

Of course, if there is collaboration from others, for example, when the quoted content indeed answers the question and the post is adopted as the solution, the artwork can become even more perfect.

Perhaps this is the fun of gamification.

Now the useless-but-fun-i-guess question is: what is the minimum one can do the get the most badges at once?

This was the reason I suggested not showing these badges on posts by default

Since Meta differs from my self-hosted test site using default settings, this data is unclear. You can try to find other elements that can be included in the same utterance apart from the 3 badges obtained from a single line of text and the 2 obtained from @user and adding emoji, which can satisfy badge triggers.

By the way, can you edit the prompt you quoted and insert it at the top of my original topic, placing this warning (which also serves as guidance) in a more prominent position? :slightly_smiling_face:

Perhaps there could be an option for “maximum number of badges a user can obtain at one time”. If multiple badges are simultaneously earned, one would be selected based on the badge ID order. Additionally, this restriction could be set separately for first-time badge recipients or for users at TL0 and TL1 levels. It must be acknowledged that the initial surprise element, due to its non-reproducible nature, may transform into frustration in subsequent interactions. By imposing restrictions in the early stages to prevent users from consuming too much interest and expectations at once, while allowing occasional simultaneous acquisition of multiple badges after obtaining the most basic ones, it helps retain users.
