I’d like to see the installer accept pasted input. Typing a 32 character password by hand with no visual feedback was not fun during setup.
Could you elaborate further on this? Do you mean the signup form? Thanks.
No. During installation.
Ah! Of course. Completely get you now.
what if you had a password instead of that long ssh key..
the way to do this is to just edit the yaml file after you fill that part in. i know that password paste block is a pain.
That is a fine workaround, but a solution would be better.
Using the “new” installer for the first time…
Is it just me or is copy and paste not available in the installer?
SG.NOT-An-Actual_Key_ni_zJ4foQYKlft-8JTlu17zyxlOemHw.c26QOKqThx941i-vUTDpMAg9z2C6OwPxi4 is a bit much to type. ![]()
The noreply address is set to forum domain i.e. noreply@forum.mydomain.com and is not editable within the installer. In my case I use noreply@mydomain.com
When asked if things look all right selecting No forces a redo and the previous entries are gone. retyping…
Missing the old installer. ![]()

Thanks, voted.
but, the installer has been out for months. Is the Team reading/listening?
Just made a fix, should be released when a new image for the installer is built tomorrow.
Thanks for the split and fix. Much appreciated!
FYI: I have been unable to have a successful install with this installer. Tried several times on two different servers, DO and Hetzner, and each attempt is broken in some fashion. Trying the Discourse ID and "don’t have a domain approaches next.
if you are having installation issues, please post any error messages and backtraces in a Support > Self-hosting topic here.
Are you sure about that…the issues are installer issues, not user caused issues.
i didn’t say they were user related, i just suggested that you post any errors or backtraces here that you are experiencing when it breaks “in some fashion”. where is it breaking on the install? ![]()
I take your point @Lilly
Once again I need to expand my inference on “post in support”. It does not always mean support for the user error… Thought I would become less sensitive with the crustiness of age, guess not. ![]()
I will start a thread in Self-hosting - Discourse Meta after the @Falco fix is onboard.
Thanks @Falco for adding the copy and paste functionality!!
As @Lilly suggested, post install issues in another place. Here you go New installer works well, but one hostname gave me fits
