Add optional_cat_slug to email subject variables

Continuing the discussion from Customize subject format for standard emails:

would it be possible to add eg %{optional_cat_slug} to this list of optional info to add to emails? We have long category names which are cumbersome when added to emails. The category slug would be better.

I just had a client ask for this too.

Another bump, just ran into this and it would be great. Email subject lines are precious real estate.

Another vote here for doing this. Makes perfect sense since we are already configuring the ‘Category Slug’ variable for categories. My full category and subcategory names are long and this would be so nice to make email subjects useful again!
