At the moment AI translations are not scoped to model type, turning it on turns it on for topics, posts, categories, tags.
My suggestion would be to edit the tag translations directly within tag settings. You do it once, and never have to do it again.
Alternatively you can also update the prompt used by the Short Text Translator agent.
